Description

Can you imagine a world without butterflies? While butterflies are insects, the majority of people see them as beautiful, peaceful creatures of nature. Furthermore, they function as pollinators for plants and trees. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has categorized over 20 butterflies and moths as endangered!
The primary cause for these butterflies being listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act is habitat loss (agriculture, commercial, residential). However, there are additional reasons for this loss, including poor land management techniques, excessive pesticide and herbicide usage, and the loss of the butterfly’s host plant, which is important for its growth and development.
