Title

The Waterfront City

Artist

Flavio Bellini

Description

I was inspired to create this painting after seeing various waterfront city paintings. Each great seaside city has a point where land meets moving water. Both Hector Berlioz’s opera “The Trojans in Carthage” and Gustave Flaubert’s novel “Salammbo” was inspired by the concept of a great metropolis on the sea. It is the inspiration for numerous works by Claude Lorrain in the 17th century and J.M.W. Turner in the 19th century.
