History of Tea Roses

Description

Robert Buist, who famously wrote the first official manual on roses in 1844, built one of the early American rose nurseries in Philadelphia. Hybrid Teas would be introduced many decades later, in 1867. The Tea rose possessed the highly desirable characteristic of repeat blooming. ‘Tea’ was given to this rose variety to describe its tea-like aroma.
